I choose old Shanghai Western Restaurant as an artifact because this place leads to the blending and conflicts between western and eastern culture. At the beginning the western restaurant was open to attract Chinese and blend some Chinese culture into the dishes. Some great chef learned about French recipe and put Chinese element into the dishes. While on the other, the cook still preserve the nutrition and good choice of material of western dishes. The importance of these western restaurant became more apparent as more foreigners arrived at China. Western restaurants were considered as the life style of capitalism and attracted many people. More importantly, they became gathering places of young people who share their ideas and life views with others.
